The Executive Secretary of CEN-SAD, His Excellency Ambassador Ado ELHADJI ABOU took part, on October 26, 2024 at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) in Jeddah in the Donors’ Conference jointly organized by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the OIC, for the mobilization of adequate resources to support refugees and displaced persons in the Sahel and Lake Chad regions.<\/p>\n\n

Indeed, the Sahel and Lake Chad Basin region has been affected by attacks by terrorist groups on civilian populations, leading to massive displacement both within the region and in neighboring countries.<\/p>\n\n

The region has also had to contend with persistent drought and environmental degradation, followed by increasingly frequent flooding, with serious consequences in terms of loss of life, destruction of housing and socio-economic infrastructure.<\/p>\n\n

The conference was an opportunity for key players and partners in the Sahel and the Lake Chad Basin to send out a strong message reaffirming their commitment to ensuring the protection of people affected by crises in the Sahel and the Lake Chad Basin, and to seeking more solutions to ensure better socio-economic inclusion among the populations hosting them, and guarantee their return to their homelands in dignity.<\/p>\n\n
