The Community of Sahel-Saharan States (CEN-SAD) has learned with dismay and deep indignation of the cowardly, coordinated terrorist attacks perpetrated on Saturday April 25, 2026 in several towns in Mali, including Bamako, Kati, Mopti, Sévaré, Gao and Kidal.
CEN-SAD vigorously deplores these barbaric acts, which targeted military positions and strategic sites, causing death and injury among civilians and defense and security forces, as well as material damage. These attacks, claimed by terrorist groups, constitute a serious violation of Mali’s sovereignty and a direct threat to the peace, stability and security of the entire Sahel-Saharan region.
CEN-SAD offers its sincere condolences to the families of the victims and expresses its total solidarity with the Malian people, the transitional authorities and the Malian Armed Forces (FAMA), who have shown courage and professionalism in repelling these assaults and re-establishing control of the situation.
In the face of the persistent terrorist threat, which knows no borders, CEN-SAD calls for a national and regional surge for peace in Mali. It invites all components of Malian society – authorities, political forces, religious and traditional leaders, civil society organizations, youth and women – to mobilize in unity and cohesion, to firmly reject terrorism and its extremist ideologies.
CEN-SAD reaffirms its unwavering commitment to Mali and all its member states in the relentless fight against terrorism, cross-border crime and violent extremism. It encourages the strengthening of security cooperation, intelligence and conflict prevention mechanisms within the CEN-SAD area, in accordance with its Protocol on Conflict Prevention, Management and Resolution.
CEN-SAD launches an urgent appeal to the international community, the African Union and technical and financial partners to support Mali in its stabilization efforts, because peace and security in Mali are inseparable from those of the entire Sahel region.
