The Community of Sahel-Saharan States (CEN-SAD) has learned with deep consternation of the cowardly attack perpetrated by terrorist elements of Boko Haram against the positions of the Chadian Armed Forces on May 4, 2026.
CEN-SAD condemns in the strongest possible terms this terrorist attack, which targets the Chadian defense forces engaged in the fight against terrorism and violent extremism in the Lake Chad Basin.
CEN-SAD extends its sincere condolences to the Chadian Armed Forces and to the bereaved families of the fallen soldiers. It expresses its sympathy to the wounded and wishes them a full and speedy recovery.
CEN-SAD reaffirms its total and unwavering solidarity with the Chadian people and the authorities of the Republic of Chad in the face of this latest ordeal. It salutes the courage, professionalism and exemplary commitment of the Chadian Armed Forces, who are playing a decisive role in the fight against terrorism in the Sahel-Saharan region.
In the face of the persistent terrorist threat, CEN-SAD calls for greater mobilization and cooperation between all member states in the fields of intelligence, cross-border security and joint operations, in order to definitively eradicate the terrorist groups that are undermining peace, stability and development in our common space.
CEN-SAD remains fully mobilized alongside Chad, and reiterates its firm and constant support for the efforts of the Chadian authorities and the countries of the region to restore lasting peace and security in the Sahel-Saharan region.
