The Community of Sahel-Saharan States (CEN-SAD) is one of the eight Regional Economic Communities (RECs) recognized by the African Union as pillars of continental integration and Africa’s economic, social and sustainable development.

Created on February 4, 1998 in Tripoli (Libya), CEN-SAD brings together 25 African states around the Sahara and the Sahel , and also has observer status with the United Nations.

Organs and institutions

CEN-SAD organs are responsible for regional integration, security and development, defining strategies, implementing policies and financing development projects.

CEN-SAD organs play an essential role in promoting regionalintegration, security and development. They are responsible for defining community strategies,developing and implementing common policies, and coordinating cooperation initiatives between member states. Relying on dedicated resources and funds, these bodies finance and support various economic, social and cultural development projects aimed at improving living conditions for populations, reinforcing regional stability and fostering sustainable, inclusive growth in the Sahel-Saharan region.
