The Community of Sahel-Saharan States (CEN-SAD) was deeply shocked to learn of the terrorist attack carried out against Diori Hamani International Airport in Niamey, Niger, on June 18, 2026, and claimed by the Group for the Support of Islam and Muslims (JNIM).
This unacceptable act, directed against critical infrastructure serving the people of Niger and the region, constitutes a serious violation of Niger’s sovereignty and a grave threat to peace and stability in the Sahel-Saharan region.
CEN-SAD reiterates its absolute rejection of terrorism in all its forms and expresses its full and complete solidarity with the people of Niger and its institutions.
CEN-SAD extends its deepest condolences to the Government and to the families of the victims of this tragedy, and wishes a speedy recovery to those who were injured. It wishes to commend the swift and decisive response of the Nigerien Defense and Security Forces, whose professionalism and dedication made it possible to contain this attack.
In this regard, CEN-SAD extends its heartfelt congratulations to the President of the Republic, the Government, and all the Defense and Security Forces for their exemplary responsiveness and their unwavering commitment to safeguarding national and regional security. This resolute response demonstrates the determination and resilience of the Nigerien authorities and people in the face of security challenges.
CEN-SAD calls for strengthened regional and international cooperation to combat terrorism more effectively and promote peace, security, and sustainable development in the Sahel. It reaffirms its ongoing commitment to supporting member states
in their joint efforts to achieve stability and prosperity in the region.
CEN-SAD stands with Niger during this difficult time and in the pursuit of its noble goals of peace and Sahel-Saharan solidarity.
